“You Shall Have It”: Musk Echoes His Poll
During a heated exchange with Trump earlier this year, Musk conducted a poll on X asking if Americans wanted a new party. The results were overwhelming. A two-to-one majority supported the idea. Now, Musk says he is delivering on that demand.
“When it comes to bankrupting our country with waste & graft, we live in a one-party system, not a democracy,” Musk posted.
His words underscore deep dissatisfaction with both major parties. He accuses them of enabling corruption and national decline. Musk promises the America Party will restore political freedom and fiscal sanity.
No Official Registration Yet
As of Saturday, the Federal Election Commission (FEC) has not published any documentation confirming the America Party’s official registration. Still, Musk’s announcement has captured widespread attention, especially among politically disillusioned voters.
The move may resemble past third-party efforts like those by the Libertarians, Greens, or People’s Party. However, none have successfully disrupted the two-party dominance. Whether Musk’s wealth and online influence can make the America Party different remains uncertain.
From Ally to Adversary: The Trump-Musk Rift
Musk was once a key Trump supporter. He danced with him on stage during rallies and introduced his son to Trump in the White House. Musk even contributed a staggering $250 million to Trump’s campaign efforts.
Later, Trump appointed Musk to head the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE). This unit was meant to slash waste in federal spending. But things quickly turned sour.
Musk resigned from DOGE in May and blasted Trump’s tax and spending strategy. He openly criticized the president’s signature legislation—the so-called “Big, Beautiful Bill”—for ballooning the deficit and ignoring green initiatives.
Billions at Stake: Tesla and SpaceX in the Crossfire
Trump’s bill lacks climate incentives, something that directly affects Musk’s business empire. Tesla, a global leader in electric vehicles, depends on green energy policies and subsidies. Without them, Musk claims his operations may struggle.
Trump clapped back on Truth Social.
“Elon may get more subsidy than any human being in history, by far,” he wrote.
“Without subsidies, Elon would probably have to close up shop and head back home to South Africa.”
Trump also hinted that DOGE might review Musk’s government contracts. This includes SpaceX, which handles U.S. rocket launches, and Starlink, a key provider of satellite services to NATO and the Pentagon.
Can the America Party Succeed?
Third-party efforts face monumental challenges. Ballot access, fundraising, media visibility, and grassroots organizing are all massive hurdles. But with Musk’s deep pockets and vast social reach, some political analysts see potential.
He commands loyal followers. He controls a massive online platform. And he thrives in chaos.
